The Electric Beetle Project

Any self-respecting hippie needs a suitable hippie mobile, and there's nothing more suitable than a vintage VW Beetle converted to electric power!

We decided to convert an aircooled VW Beetle instead of the Kombi bus we had previously picked out because it is smaller, lighter, and more maneuverable. This makes it more efficient and more suitable to running errands around town. With the limited (60km) range of the battery pack, this is a much more practical application of an electric vehicle. Plus, a beetle is much more budget conscious than a split-window bus!

Conversion kits for switching an aircooled VW Beetle over to electric start at around $5,000, which makes this a relatively affordable project, considering the price of fuel and the price of vehicles.
